I got an email a little while ago because a British electro-rock band, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, liked my art and wanted to use a painting in the CD booklet for their upcoming album. Well it just came out, which I realized when I was listening to KCRW the other morning where they’ve been giving it a lot of airplay. If you aren’t already tuning in, the morning show that Jason Bentley does is great — you can stream it here, just click “Music” in the top menu and scan the program listings for his show. He’s on every morning live from 8-10am. Other tasty treats he’s played recently: the new Portishead, Sunny Levine, Motorcycle, Juno Reactor, Cinematic Orchestra, Static Revenger, She & Him, and Black Ghosts.
But back to Does It Offend You, Yeah? Amazon has the new album, titled “You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into” (it just dropped last week), and the band’s MySpace page has a great video for their song “Epic Last Song” (from which these images are snatched).
In an interview with the band in NME.com (8.30.07), they revealed the origins of their name: synth player Dan Coop explained: “Everybody thinks the name is some kind of statement but it’s a quote from David Brent in an episode of ‘The Office’. When me and James Rushent first started writing music together we decided to put it up on MySpace. We needed a name to put as our profile name so just put what was the first thing that was said on TV, we switched it on and Ricky Gervais said ‘Does it offend you, yeah? My drinking?’ so we just went with that. No thought went into it whatsoever.”

I keep hearing about this band, but wrote them off as another of those “in your face,” “saying anything to shock” outfits. Now that I know their name is from The Office I’ll have to give them a second listen!
